01 Jan 2009 - Nice way to start off the new year, a gray market Mercedes 280SL. Chip brought this car in for some work and I must say it is one of the nicest driving cars I've had the pleasure to work on. The car is suffering from a hot idle problem and is equipped with the CIS Bosch mechnical fuel injection system. I think I've found the problem, a cracked vacuum hose buried underneath the CIS unit has created an intermittent vacuum leak. The vacuum leak is causing havoc with the ability of the CIS injection to maintain a steady idle. The car has the 2.8L inline double overhead cam in line six cylinder with a 4 speed automatic; pretty advanced for a car built at the end of the '70's decade. As with everything that Mercedes built during this time period, it is well engineered and built to last.
